You see, four years ago, way back in the late summer of 2018, this was the first deck printed under the StrangeLove banner. It was ourflagship graphic, you could say, especially if you’re prone to such maritime metaphors, and because we were still sailing in uncharted waters a very conservative amount of 150 were produced in total on aboat-size 9.5 shape. Tired of all this oceanery? Me too. So let’s move the fuck on already. What’s the real back story on this graphic? For one, I’m a self-diagnosed agoraphobe, theetymology of which goes all the way back to the “agoras,” aka wide open and generally very crowded market spaces of ancient Greece. Neat, huh? But that’s neither here nor there when the point I’m trying to make is that I have to performall kinds of mental gymnastics to grin and bear it in crowds, and one such way to grin is imagine everyone elsearound me bare. Not in the creepy way, of coursethat would be rather sad and disturbingbut purely as anobserver of the human figure and all the fantastic ways in which it takes physical form. So there I was on Main Street USA, imagineering the crowded scene before me, when I was like, “Damn, this would be a serious nightmare to try and draw as a graphic,” and it probably took well over 15 years before I finally committed to doing so. In conclusion,that’s how I spent a good chunk of my life in 2018 only to have it printed on 150 measly decks. So if you’re one of those weirdoswho only cares about the collectibility of a board and not the actual use thereof, all I can say is fuck you. Neat, huh? Also, it’s probably a good thing this is my own company, because if I tried any of this shit at another company I surely would’ve been kicked out the back loading dock door long, long ago.Cliver
